Production started in August in Atlanta, with 150 original half-hour episodes planned for the Monday-Friday daytime strip. Like most court shows, Cutlers Court is being sold on an all-barter basis and will air as double runs in most markets. That’s made it a good time to get into the syndication space.” “We know that there are available time slots for our show. “The departure of other court shows left a vacuum that we’re filling,” Tom Cappello, executive producer and co-founder and CEO of Crazy Legs, said. and it’s been picked up in 17 of the top 20 markets on stations from such groups as CBS Television Stations, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Nexstar Media Group, Gray Television, Weigel Broadcasting, Tegna and E.W. MGM, which was acquired by Amazon in 2022, has since exited the court business.Ĭutlers Court is cleared in more than 80% of the U.S. The married couple from Kansas City are both lawyers who cut their court-show teeth on MGM’s Couples Court With the Cutlers, which ran in original production from 2017-20. This fall, Atlanta-based Crazy Legs Productions is rolling out Cutlers Court, starring Dana and Keith Cutler. Husband-and-wife judges Dana and Keith Cutler are reconvening in syndication with a new offering, Cutlers Court. We are helping TV stations to capitalize on the category and hold on to it.”īesides AMG, there are others out there who are willing to take swings. There are plenty of law firms that are advertising and they like the environment of court shows. “Legal is a very important advertising category for local TV stations. “We made a conscious choice many years ago to be the leader in the space,” Allen, founder, chairman and CEO of AMG, said. It’s a model that others are seeking to emulate. AMG owns its shows outright and also offers them on its own streaming and cable networks, creating ancillary revenue streams. AMG tends to bundle these shows into blocks, cume the ratings and sell advertising across the entire block. Williams as AMG rolls out three more court shows this fall, bringing its total court offering to nine. Those shows - Justice for the People With Judge Milian and Mathis Court With Judge Mathis - join Equal Justice With Judge Eboni K. “It’s to the point where we make more money on streaming than we do on the broadcast.”Īrguably the winner of the court fallout is Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, which snapped up People’s Court’s Judge Marilyn Milian and Judge Greg Mathis and gave them both their own new shows. “Older episodes of Divorce Court have dedicated channels on different platforms and it plays all over the place,” said Stephen Brown, executive VP, programming, Fox Television Stations and Fox First Run. Divorce Court stays in the black by airing on other platforms. Of all the court shows that have aired in recent years, only two standalone shows remain in original production: CBS Media Ventures’s Hot Bench, which was created by Judge Judy Sheindlin, and Fox’s Divorce Court, which features Star Jones and is now headed into its 25th season. Those repeats are also being offered to stations, although so far there haven’t been takers due to the seller seeking cash license fees in a cash-strapped market. True-blue Judy viewers can find her in originals on Amazon Freevee, where she stars in a Judge Judy lookalike, Judy Justice. They are joined by MGM’s block of court repeats - Paternity Court With Lauren Lake, Personal Injury Court and Couples Court With the Cutlers - which run on stations under the title “Relationship Court.”Īlso concluding its run is Wrigley Media’s Relative Justice, starring Judge Rhonda Willis, which aired in first-run syndication for three seasons. All three of those shows remain on TV stations in repeats. Discovery earlier this year canceled The People’s Court, which aired in syndication for 26 seasons, and Judge Mathis, which ran for 24. CBS Media Ventures’s Judge Judy completed original production in 2021, while In the past two years, three of the genre’s major shows have ended. But the dwindling daytime audience is making it difficult for stations to keep low-cost court shows on the air, which is why even lower-cost repeats are becoming prevalent. That’s why court shows are so appealing in those hours: An entire year of programming can be produced within a few weeks and the shows can be sold on a station-friendly, barter-only basis. is that it has become very hard for stations to make money in those time slots. The challenge with daytime - the hours between 9 a.m. This e-mail validates and shall only inform the buyer that their order was received by Artist Shot and does not suggest an approval of the offer. One look at the box cover and I knew it was going to be a title made early in Denzel Washington's career. My family bought me 'License to Kill' many years ago for Christmas. Don't buy it, rent it for $1.04 like I did. The tragedy and heartache suffered by the offended and by the offending persons in this film is well portrayed. Perhaps they feel justice does not get done. Denzel Washington does well in portraying the helplessness that must often be felt by people who are wronged and have to wait for justice to be done. I will recommend this film for it's great message. Yep, Denzel Washington did not have a spectacular part. (Is that ten lines yet?) Nope, it wouldn't let me go. To find films with relevant social themes, the viewer will need to look elsewhere. Its thematic message of don't-drink-and-drive has long since been pounded and beaten into Americans, the highly moralistic theme belabored, ordained, and codified in countless other ways. I can think of no reason to recommend "License To Kill". And the film's low-key piano score reeks of cheap elevator music. Script dialogue contains very little subtext. The film's plot is trite and predictable. The head of the other family is an arrogant businessman named Tom Fiske (Don Murray) who is easy to dislike. The family of the victim is highly respectable and squeaky clean. Characters are all cardboard cutouts, lacking any degree of complexity. The story is not particularly entertaining. But a generation later, the film's blunt, too-direct theme is highly off-putting. Maybe in its day the movie had some merit as a propaganda tool. The courtroom sequence in the second half contains some tension. There's really not a whole lot to say about this low budget made-for-TV drama about two families whose lives intersect as a result of an accident involving a young girl and a drunk driver. The message is a little heavy-handed, but it remains a valid one, however dated the movie itself may be (check out Denzel's glasses!). It's not a spectacular movie - it has its maudlin moments, its result is predictable, and there are times you'll want to kick some of the characters for their obstinacy - but as I say, it's a product of its time, and there are worse ways of spending an hour and a half. Denzel comes into the picture as the extremely overworked but nevertheless competent public prosecutor Martin Sawyer, who is assigned the case against the driver charged with Lynne's death. The family drifts apart as John obsesses over getting the guilty driver convicted of manslaughter Judith sinks into helpless depression and Amy is left lonely and afraid, her world suddenly upside-down. The main characters are the members of the Peterson family - father John (Farentino), mother Judith (Fuller), and younger daughter Amy (Meyers) - each of whom struggles with his or her grief when the elder daughter of the family, Lynne (Vigard), is killed by a drunk driver. We can classify an annotated bibliography based on the purpose of writing one. Typically, this is because older references can have confusing or outdated information. It also helps plan how to write an essay or a literature review, making sense since it gives you a bigger picture.Īn annotated bibliography should always cover the most current sources at most, we recommend using sources within the last five years. In rare cases, an annotated bibliography can help you develop an outline for your paper. Still, an annotated bibliography will help you show to your instructor the depth and quality of research and reading you've done on a given topic. Equally, you can exemplify the scope of the sources such as websites, journal articles, peer-reviewed articles, or books, highlighting their significance to your research. It also helps to explore and organize sources for future research. Second, doing so enables you to develop arguments, establish connections, and give examples that help you write a solid paper on the topic.Īn annotated bibliography also helps review depth and content in the literature on a subject, which helps develop your thesis and the upcoming paper.Īn annotated bib also helps you select high-quality scholarly sources that might be of interest when writing your paper. First, when assigned as part of a larger assignment, it helps you familiarize yourself with the material available on a given topic. Why write an annotated bibliography?Īn annotated bibliography has many purposes. Like a reference list, an annotated bibliography has an alphabetical order. It recounts the research available on a topic. The annotation is a concise analysis, evaluation, or summary of the content of the source, the authors, and the relevance to the topic.Īn annotated bibliography can also be casually referred to as an annotated bib. It is more of a reference list with some short text under each full bibliographic citation of a source. What is an annotated bibliography?:DefinitionĪn annotated bibliography refers to a list of or organized sources of reference with a short descriptive text ( the annotation) for every source. This article features expert advice from our annotated bibliography writers. This article covers the definition of annotated bibliography, examples of the most common annotated bibliography in different formats (APA, MLA, and Chicago), and steps you need to take to write a top-grade annotated bibliography. Whichever the case, you are already here probably because you want to learn how to create an annotated bibliography. Your professor or instructor might prefer it otherwise, but they should state that in the assignment prompt. However, when assigned as part of an assignment, you first complete the assignment, e.g., case study, research paper, thesis, dissertation, research proposal, essay, or term paper, then write your annotated bibliography just before the references page. Here, you gather and read sources that support your given topic and then annotate each. When given as an independent assignment, you (the student) are expected to write a stand-alone annotated bibliography in the assigned format. Instructors and professors often assign annotated bibliography assignments either as an independent assignment or as part of another assignment. |
